Ever since I fell in love with cinema and began working in this profession, I’ve always wanted to make an adventure film. A series or movie I could watch with my kids, something they’d truly enjoy, from a genre that shaped my own childhood. With Ladrones: La tiara de Santa Águeda, that moment finally came.

Beyond the action and the sparkle the story called for, I wanted every image to carry emotion, tension, longing, and at times a certain fragility. Our visual references were the adventure films of the 80s, especially the Indiana Jones saga.

From the very beginning, I understood that the real challenge was finding the balance between entertainment and emotional truth. There were scenes full of rhythm, tension and movement, but I didn’t want the image to overshadow what the characters were living through. I wanted to wrap them in those locations with the same care the story itself gave them. That’s why I pursued an elegant, natural look. Where light accompanied without drawing too much attention to itself, and turned expressive when the action demanded it.

On location, I leaned heavily on natural light, letting the surroundings offer us textures and unexpected moments: from breathtaking sunsets in the Dominican Republic to the soft spring light of Málaga.

Interiors called for more precise lighting, always guided by what each character was feeling in that instant, and always aiming for naturalness and elegance. Sometimes a shadow or a gentle fall of light said more than any elaborate technical display.

In the end, my intention was simple: for the series to have beauty, yes. But above all, soul.
